Pattison's Progression

My older brother sent me this photo.

This is from around 1930. It is a Japanese 'War Tuba', used to locate enemy aircraft before the invention of radar.
Coney Island in 1905.

The following information is gathered from the Jim Pattison Group website.

As I told you, this empire started with the purchase of a Pontiac Buick dealership in 1961.

In 1965, Pattison's media enterprises began when he was awarded license to operate Vancouver AM radio station, CJOR.

1967 was the year Jim acquired Neon Products and Seaboard Outdoor Advertising.

1968 was the year Overwaitea Foods joined the fold.

Provincial News became part of the group in 1969 and three years later, in 1972, Mountain City News joined.
Galveston Texas in 1900 after the Great Hurricane, which killed approximately 8,000 people.

Here's another one I like. This photo dates back to 1912 and there is red and black paint on this iceberg. It is believed to be the one that the Titanic hit.
1944. This is the B-24H Liberator "Little Warrior". Her fuel tanks explode over Germany after being struck by anti-aircraft guns.

This rescue boat is pulling up alongside the USS West Virginia after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941.

In 1978, the Pattison group started the Group Opportunities program, which provide sales, marketing and procurement support to all The Jim Pattison Group companies.

1979, the Claude Neon company joined the group.

1980 saw the start of Jim Pattison Real Estate Group and Jim Pattison Toyota dealerships opened in BC's lower mainland.

In 1981, the group acquired Hook Outdoor Advertising and launched Save-On Foods.

1984 was the year the group acquired Canadian Fishing Company. A year after that, Ripley International Limited became part of The Jim Pattison Group.

1986 was a good year for media for Jim Pattison since that was the year they were not only awarded  license to operate Vancouver FM station, CJJR but as well the group acquired radio and TV stations in Kamloops.

Betty White and dog in 1952.
September 1, 1939. This is Wielun after the German Luftwaffe bombing. This was not only the spark for World War II but is also thought to be the first terrorist bombing in history.

1987. The Jim Pattison Group got Metro Toyota dealerships in Victoria and Duncan, BC.

In 1989, the group expanded outside Canada's border by acquiring periodical distribution companies in Ancnhorage, AK and Atlanta, GA.

1990, packaging companies Genpak, Coroplast and Montebello were acquired by the group and they were also awarded a Lexus dealership in Victoria, BC.

In 1991, Great Pacific Capital Corp. - the financial services division - began.

1993 was the year The Jim Pattison Group assumed management control over Westar Group Ltd including Westshore Terminals' bulk loading facility in Roberts Bank, BC.

Whew! That was just the start. I will tell you more on Monday.

Thanks for my mom and her friend Wes for the old photos.

I hope you find the beauty around you.

    1. Thanks Lee. I think Pattison is someone to be admired. He started from nothing and look where he ended up.
