At 610 and 612 Alexander Street is the Laurel Apartments. It was built in 1908 and the east end was once a dance hall.
Across the street from the Laurel Apartments is a design center that started its life in 1910 as the home for the American Can Company.
Last year I wrote a bit about the bordellos that used to be in Vancouver and this next place on Alexander you may recognize.
504 Alexander was originally built as a hospital but around 1910 it was known as a bordello. At that time the red light district was between Jackson and Heatley Streets.
500 Alexander Street was originally the British Sailors Home then, in 1910 a bordello, and later the International Inn. Unfortunately the day I walked by it was shrouded in scaffolds and tarps so work is being done on it.
